The Jerusalem District of the Israel Police and the General Security Service uncovered and arrested a suspect who planned to carry out an attack in the center of Jerusalem and an indictment is expected against him tomorrow.

Recently, an investigation began in the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District together with the General Security Service, following the incidents of disorder and popular terrorism that occurred in the past months in the East of the city of Jerusalem, and regarding offenses of organization and activity in the "Kotala Islamia" terrorist organization.
On July 23, 2022, the investigation became public when one of the suspects was arrested during an operation carried out by the policemen of the Oz station in the Jerusalem district and MGB soldiers, and later additional suspects were arrested. The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects, residents of the Jebel Mokbar neighborhood, aged 18-20.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office and the Shin Bet, the investigators revealed that one of the suspects planned to carry out an attack in downtown Jerusalem, and at the same time was interested in purchasing an M16 weapon at a financial cost of tens of thousands of NIS, but in the end his plan did not come to fruition. In addition, according to The suspicion is that the four involved participated in the incidents of disorder that occurred during the past months, which included throwing stones, throwing Molotov cocktails and launching fireworks at the police forces operating in East Jerusalem.
The detention of the suspects was extended at the High Court from time to time in order to complete the investigation. In the last few days, after the completion of the investigation against two of the suspects (including one of the suspects who planned to carry out an attack) and the formation of an evidentiary infrastructure, a prosecutor's statement was submitted and their detention was extended until August 26 in order to file charges by the prosecutor's office .
Also, the detention of the other two suspects was extended at the High Court and their investigation continues on the suspicion of their involvement in terrorist activity that included throwing Molotov cocktails at residences and disturbances that occurred as mentioned.
