On Friday evening, the Penzberg folk festival starts with the new festival host Holger Regulator, after it - at least that's what it looked like in July - was already threatening to be cancelled.

Now the previous Penzberg host Christian Fahrenschon speaks up.

Penzberg - Shortly before the start of the folk festival, the previous festival host Christian Fahrenschon spoke up: He attaches importance to the statement that he was not alone in canceling the folk festival, but that this was a joint decision with the city of Penzberg last July.

Both sides had said so.

As reported, the lack of staff in the kitchen and service was given as the reason.

"Normal folk festival, as we were used to until 2019, not possible"

At that time, according to Fahrenschon, the statement was made that a normal folk festival with the tent size and program items such as senior citizens' day and company day, as was usual up to 2019, was not possible because there could have been bottlenecks and one or the other festival visitor might not have found a seat.

His tent, he explained, is 70 meters long, the current tent maybe 40 meters, he estimates.

Fahrenschon: "The folk festival wasn't that important back then"

Fahrenschon also explained that, at his suggestion, it was also discussed at the time that clubs could help, “as is known from traditional costume festivals”.

However, the city's answer was that they had tried this at other events, but it hadn't worked, so this was not a sensible solution.

Then it was said: "You do it cleverly or not at all." Against this background, you decided together that you wouldn't do it.

"The folk festival wasn't that important back then," says Fahrenschon.

At the time, he also asked not to go public immediately, but to wait another week "to see if anything else happened".

However, the city decided to go public immediately.

Ex-landlord wants to come to the Penzberger Wiesn "by all means".

Fahrenschon also commented that a folk festival is now taking place in Penzberg.

"I'm happy for the Penzbergers, I hope my colleague can do it," he said.

However, he described it as "strange" that the new landlord apparently has no staffing problems.

He is currently at the Rosenheim folk festival, said Fahrenschon, and staff are also being sought there.

But he wants to come to the Penzberger Wiesn "by all means" and drink a pint of beer, as he says: "It's not an Augustiner, let's see how the Reutberger tastes."
