Deputy Chairman of the Russian National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev revealed 4 motives for Moscow's use of nuclear weapons under the Russian military doctrine.
Medvedev said in a statement to the French channel LCI in response to a question about the possibility of Russia's use of tactical nuclear weapons, "Russia's military doctrine is not secret in this regard, and there is also a special document called the foundations of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence."
He explained that "this document includes 4 bases for the use of nuclear weapons, including Russia's exposure to launching nuclear missiles, using nuclear weapons, striking the infrastructure to command nuclear weapons, or other actions that represent a threat to the existence of the Russian state," adding: "So far, we have not observed such actions."
It is noteworthy that Russia has confirmed more than once that it intends to use nuclear weapons and will not be the first to use them in the event of any conflict threatening it.
In another context, Medvedev stressed that Kyiv's abandonment of the idea of joining NATO is a necessary but not sufficient condition for peace.
"It is necessary to put guarantees, include them in an agreement and sign them by all parties, so that this is a sufficient condition to end the Russian special operation when it achieves its goals," Medvedev said.
