According to the Federal Network Agency, longer nuclear power plant runtimes may be necessary due to the lack of electricity in Europe.
However, nuclear power cannot serve as a substitute for the lack of gas.
Munich/Osnabrück - With nuclear power against Putin?
The Federal Network Agency made a statement in the discussion about longer operating times for nuclear reactors, which could ensure greater energy independence.
According to the Federal Network Agency, German nuclear power stations could have to remain connected to the grid longer due to an impending power shortage in Europe.
"The ongoing stress tests deal with the question of whether our nuclear power plants have to stay connected to the grid longer in order to cover our and Europe's electricity needs in winter," said Klaus Müller, President of the Authority, in an interview with the
Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung
(NOZ).
"That is being calculated very thoroughly by the transmission system operators."
Bundesnetzagentur: “Too much gas is currently being generated in Germany”
In Germany, "too much gas is currently being generated, mainly to help France, because not enough electricity can be generated there due to the problems with the nuclear power plants there," explained Müller.
In Germany, nuclear power “cannot help against a gas shortage, because we need the gas as a raw material in the chemical industry and for combined heat and power, i.e. for heating.
Nuclear power is no substitute for either of these.”
Scheuer for the construction of new nuclear power plants
Most recently, the former Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) proposed the construction of new nuclear power plants.
"My formula is three plus three plus three: three nuclear power plants have to run longer, three have to be reactivated and three have to be rebuilt," Scheuer told
Welt am Sonntag
.
"We need a reliable supply of energy to the economy, otherwise the deindustrialization of Germany will progress," added Scheuer.
Scheuer continues: "I also took part in the nuclear phase-out and the coal phase-out," admitted Scheuer, who is still a member of the Bundestag, in the interview.
"But that was only possible because a stable and cheap gas supply with Nord Stream 2 was supposed to go on line at the time, because there was peace and we didn't have an aggressor like Putin." Now there is a "dramatic change in the situation".

That the Russian propaganda machine defames the West is nothing new.
This time it went well below the belt against Olaf Scholz.
