The writer specializing in food, agriculture and development affairs, Colin Todd Hunter, emphasized that the current global food and poverty crisis is a creation of the United States and aims through it to maintain its hegemony in the world.

In an article published by the Canadian website (Global Research), Todd Hunter said that the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, warned last March of what he called “the hurricane of hunger” and the collapse of the global food system in the wake of The Ukrainian crisis and the disruption of supply chains as a result of it, which caused a rise in the prices of food, fuel and fertilizers, and affected the poorest groups in the world.

Todd Hunter added that the war in Ukraine, fueled by Washington, is originally a trade, geopolitical, and energy conflict, and is largely related to the United States' involvement in a proxy war against Russia and Europe as well. It is trying to separate these two powers and impose sanctions on Russia to harm Europe by preventing it from Increasing its trade and investments with the Russian side, thus making it more dependent on the United States.

The writer explained that the neoliberal policies that Washington has pursued since the 1980s have emptied the American economy and severely weakened its productive base. Therefore, the only way for the United States to maintain its hegemony was to try to undermine China and Russia and weaken Europe.

The writer cited a statement by Economic Professor Michael Hudson in which he confirmed this idea, noting that US President Joe Biden and the neo-conservatives have been trying for nearly a year to prevent the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project and all forms of energy trade between Europe and Russia so that the United States can monopolize it for itself.

"Despite the "Green Agenda" that Washington says it is currently trying to adopt, it still relies on fossil fuel-based energy to project its power abroad, and even as Russia and China move away from the US dollar, control of oil and gas and associated debt remains," said Todd Hunter. Pricing them in dollars is key to US attempts to maintain hegemony.

The writer pointed out that US policymakers are well aware that Europe will be destroyed by high energy and food prices and that food-importing countries in the southern part of the world will suffer greatly due to high costs and that this is not the first time that Washington has engineered a massive crisis to maintain its global dominance And causing the rise in the prices of basic commodities to actually entrap other countries in the trap of dependence and debt.

The writer explained that the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1973 was an integral part of the campaign to manipulate events in the Middle East and helped in the plan to bring about huge rises in oil prices in (OPEC) and thus increase the profits of the Anglo-American oil companies that were excessively borrowing in offshore oil. The North also strengthened the petrodollar system with the Saudis and plunged African countries that had then adopted the path of oil-based industrialization into a vicious cycle of dependence and debt due to the sharp rise in oil prices.

He added, "Today, the United States is once again waging a war against large sectors of humanity with the aim of impoverishing them and ensuring their continued dependence on the United States and its financial institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Hundreds of millions will suffer from poverty and hunger because of Washington's policies that view them with contempt and consider them mere collateral damage in the Its great geopolitical game.
