A day before their joint meeting, Netanyahu attacks Lapid: "He fell asleep under guard" | Israel today

Following the briefing held by the Prime Minister today, the opposition leader attacked him: "Lapid and Gantz's incompetence will be remembered in history as the Iranian nuclear failure" • The two are scheduled to meet tomorrow

Prime Minister Yair Lapid and opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu will meet tomorrow (Monday) for a security update, against the background of the progress in negotiations on the nuclear agreement with Iran.

The meeting will take place at 17:00 at the Prime Minister's office in Jerusalem.

Before their meeting, Netanyahu attacked Lapid and Gantz and said that "in the past year, Lapid and Gantz have completely abandoned the public struggle against the nuclear agreement with Iran. For 12 years we fought resolutely against this agreement and even got the US to withdraw from it.

But in their only year in power, Lapid and Gantz fell asleep on guard and allowed the US and Iran to reach a nuclear agreement that endangers our future. They simply did nothing to pressure the US administration not to sign this agreement.

"Unlike us - they didn't go to Congress, didn't go to the United Nations, didn't conduct a vigorous information campaign in the world media.

After the U.S. had already concluded the main points of the agreement with Iran, only then did Lapid and Gantz remember to wake up. Too late, too little. The lapid and Gantz's laziness will be remembered in history as the Iranian nuclear failure. There is no better example of this laziness than the fact that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Iran' Shalapid Mina, currently vacationing in Italy, on the eve of the signing of the agreement, and also in an area without reception. That's not how you fight existential danger. That's not how you protect Israel.

"I pledge to you, citizens of Israel: after we win the elections, we will act in every way against this agreement. I will never let Iran obtain nuclear weapons."

"Ready for any scenario"

Earlier today, during a press briefing held by Lapid, he stated that "the IDF and the Mossad received an instruction from us to prepare themselves for any scenario.

The State of Israel has been waging a multi-system political struggle for more than a year aimed at preventing the re-signing of the nuclear agreement with Iran," said Lapid. "The head of the National Assembly returned from Washington this weekend, the Minister of Defense is there now. We are making a coordinated effort to make sure that the Americans and the Europeans understand the dangers involved in the agreement".

Lapid also added that "Regarding the latest proposal put on the table by the European Union, we told the Americans: 'This is not what President Biden wanted. This is not what he talked about during his visit to Israel, this is not what he signed in the Jerusalem Declaration.'

"Israel will not depend on Iran's decisions."

Earlier, a senior political official stated that "the formula for the nuclear agreement that is taking shape does not correspond to the directive outlined by President Biden nor to what was signed in the Jerusalem Declaration", so said today (Sunday) a senior political official criticizing the US. However, the official emphasized the importance of maintaining normal relations with Washington and claimed that this is one of the significant achievements of the current government.

The source confirmed the publication in "Israel Hayom" according to which there is no way to know how much uranium Iran has enriched, therefore even if an agreement is signed there will still be uncertainty surrounding the question of whether Tehran has indeed handed over all the enriched material in its possession.

"We are very concerned about this possibility, that the Iranians are getting richer than they are reporting," the senior political official said.

"There is indeed a possibility that they keep more enriched material than is reported."
