(ANSA) - GRAGNANO (NAPLES), AUGUST 28 - A fire that broke out in the late evening yesterday in the restaurant "La Cantina del Castello" in Gragnano totally destroyed the place and put the customers who were at the tables away.

    Eight people were burned: seven mildly - taken to the San Leonardo hospital in Castellammare di Stabia and discharged shortly after - while the eighth injured - a 24-year-old from Calvizzano - was transported to Cardarelli in Naples.

    The restaurant is located in the Aurano-Castello area of the "city of pasta" and, on a Saturday evening, it was crowded and in full swing.

    The flames broke out after an explosion was felt in the kitchen and completely enveloped the structure, largely in wood.

Some surrounding houses were also touched by the fire.

    On the spot, an ancient village with a narrow entrance, four fire trucks and the carabinieri from Gragnano and the Compagnia di Castellammare arrived and opened an investigation to trace the causes of the fire, almost certainly of accidental origin.

The young man transported to the Cardarelli in Naples in yellow code has widespread burns throughout his body: his conditions are defined as serious, but he is not life threatening.

Of the other seven injured, however, a woman is still in the emergency room of Castellammare di Stabia for checks;

the other six were, as mentioned, all discharged and their prognoses vary from 5 to 20 days.

The flames developed around 10.30 pm, apparently from the barbecue area, and were put out by the fire brigade.

The area was seized.
