The director of the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Professor Mickey Halbertal, this morning (Sunday) called interns at the hospital to a meeting in an attempt to break the threat of a strike and prevent the mass resignation that is on the table. This is a step before a hearing, before a dismissal and it is happening at the same time as a demonstration of the interns outside the hospital. During the demonstration, chants of "Mickey be ashamed", "Enough with slavery" and "We want action - not talk" were chanted. At the same time, several interns walked out to the protest square after the conversation with Professor Halbertal when they were crying and it was reported that "the management is threatening them".

Rambam's CEO did not accede to Knesset member Naama Lazimi's (Labor) request to hold an urgent meeting with him on the issue.

Instead, in an email that he insisted would remain "confidential," he replied that "resignation is not an act" and that "the hospital cannot be held hostage."

It is also written that "my commitment is first of all to the patients, even if there was an outline - the implementation in Rambam is only in a few years."

Lazimi's entourage stated that the Rambam CEO's response was "very disappointing" and that "it is clear to us that the CEO does not support the interns or the struggle and intends to fire them." On the other hand, the Rambam management expressed support for Professor Halbertel: "What is he supposed to do? Prepare and close departments?".

Also, a senior doctor said: "Resignation is no laughing matter - whoever resigns should take into account that he might find that Berambam accepts the resignation."



MK Lazimi, who is active for the interns, turned to the police and security guards near the main entrance to the hospital and said: "You too When you need treatment, you don't want to receive it from a specialist who has already been working for 25 hours."

On Thursday, about 500 interns submitted their letters of resignation, which will take effect as early as next month. Rambam chose not to address or respond to the claims.
