2022-08-28T01:51:08.719Z

This is a governmental conflict that threatens the relative peace that the country has known for the past two years • Turkey, which has a military presence around Tripoli, has called for an immediate ceasefire

23 people were killed and 87 injured over the weekend in Tripoli, Libya, as a result of violent clashes between the governments of Tripoli and Tobruk.

The forces of the eastern government led by Fathi in Ash'ra advanced during the day to the center of Tripoli after taking control of the gates in the west of the capital.

This is a significant development after in the last civil war the eastern forces were blocked in Tripoli, and had to retreat.

At the same time, it was reported in Arab media that the forces of the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abd al-Hamid al-Dabiyba, announced a general mobilization.

It was also reported that there was an exchange of fire in the city center between the militias loyal to each side.

Sources told the Saudi Al-Hadath network that the Eastern forces used drones in their attacks. Also, Al Jazeera reported from a military source that the Eastern forces attacked the road to the airport in southern Libya.

Turkey, which has a military presence around Tripoli, called for an immediate ceasefire and said: "We continue to stand by our Libyan brothers."

We will remind that the government of national unity headed by Davibe was formed last year to lead the country to the presidential and parliamentary elections in December.

However, as the date of the elections approached, attempts began to disqualify various presidential candidates, and the elections were postponed until further notice.

Against the background of criticism against the legitimacy of the unity government after the elections did not take place, the parliament in the city of Tobruk in the east of the country voted on the appointment of Fathi Bashar'a as a new prime minister.

Since then, there have been attempts to bridge the gap between the parties, but all of them have failed.
