18 killed in floods in eastern Afghanistan

Kabul, SANA- At least 18 people were killed and 40 others were injured today as a result of the floods and torrential rains that swept across the country.

At least 18 people were killed and 40 others were injured today as a result of floods and torrential rains that swept the eastern Afghan province of Kunar.

Xinhua news agency quoted local media as saying: Floods swept through several villages in Sarkano district of the province today, killing 18 people, including women and children, and injuring 40 others, as well as destroying 579 homes due to torrential rains in the area.

Local officials had said that more than 200 people were killed and more than 250 injured over the past month due to heavy rains and floods in Afghanistan.
