The popular nine-euro ticket expires at the end of August - a successor solution is being hotly debated.
Now the SPD is going on the offensive.
Berlin – Shortly before the end of the nine-euro ticket for local transport, the transport companies will take stock this Monday.
Around 38 million copies had been sold by the beginning of August alone.
Monthly passes were offered for June, July and August;
Passengers could use local transport nationwide.
The industry association of transport companies VDV had asked 6,000 passengers weekly about the nine-euro ticket over the past few months and now wants to present the results.
The "interim balance" is presented with several state transport ministers.
There is also lively discussion about successor solutions.
9-euro ticket: SPD plans 49-euro ticket as successor
According to a report in the
Bild
newspaper, the SPD is planning, among other things, a nationwide valid 49-euro ticket for local transport as part of a further relief package.
This should be the successor to the nine-euro ticket, which expires at the end of the month, and the costs should be borne equally by the federal and state governments, the newspaper reported.
In doing so, they take into account the transport companies' demand for a successor plan.
However, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) sees no funds for a new nine-euro ticket.
The federal government had financed the three-month campaign with 2.5 billion euros to compensate for loss of income at transport companies.
9-euro ticket creates a surge in demand
The nine-euro ticket should relieve commuters in view of high energy prices.
In addition, the campaign was intended to advertise a switch to buses and trains.
However, studies during the campaign period initially showed only a slight shifting effect.
The industry also suspects that many journeys would probably not have been made without the cheap ticket.
Deutsche Bahn sees a success in the experiment.
"In the last three months, an average of ten percent more passengers have traveled in our regional transport than before Corona," board member Evelyn Palla announced on Sunday.
Every fifth user has rediscovered public transport.
