French police are investigating French soccer player Paul Pogba's claim that he is being extorted, the Paris prosecutor's office confirmed to CNN on Monday.
Pogba made the extortion allegation through his legal team in a statement obtained by CNN on Monday.
A spokesman for the prosecution told CNN that an investigation was launched in early August.
"I can confirm that an investigation was opened on August 3, 2022, in particular on the charge of extortion in an organized gang and attempted extortion in an organized gang," the statement said.
"The investigations were entrusted to the OCLCO," adds the prosecution.
The OCLCO is the branch of the French judicial police in charge of investigations into organized crime.
Pogba's statement came after his brother, Mathias Pogba, posted a series of videos on Instagram in English, French, Spanish and Italian in which he claimed he would make "huge revelations" about the conduct of Paul and Rafaela Pimenta, their agent.

In his video this Saturday, Mathias said: "The French, Italian and English public... and even more so, the French national team and the Juventus team, my brothers' teammates and their sponsors deserve to know certain things to take a informed decision on whether he deserves the admiration, respect and love of the public, whether he deserves his place in the French team, and the honor of playing in a World Cup... Whether he is a trustworthy person that any player would want to have by his side And, finally, if it is worthy of being taken as a representative model by the youth and, of course, by the big brands".

Paul Pogba's statement, signed by his lawyers, his mother Yeo Moriba and Pimenta, says: "Unfortunately, Mathias Pogba's recent social media posts come as no surprise and follow other attempts over an extended period of trying to extort Paul Pogba".
"The facts have been reported to the Italian and French police a month ago and there will be no further comment on the ongoing investigations."
"Mathias responded to reports of the investigation in a series of tweets, opening with: 'What I've been waiting for has arrived: my little brother is finally starting to show his true colors.'"
CNN reached out to Mathias for further comment, but did not immediately respond.
Pogba, 29, returned to his former club, Turin-based Juventus, in July after six years at Manchester United.
Juventus did not offer any comment on the matter.
CNN has contacted Italian police for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
