The gas levy is a contentious issue within the traffic light coalition.

Friedrich Merz is now criticizing the government for disagreeing with the planned aid for energy companies.

Berlin - They still exist, the good news in the current energy crisis in Germany.

The filling level of the gas storage facilities in Germany was 81.78 percent last Thursday morning (August 25).

A federal ordinance stipulates that German storage facilities must be at least 85 percent full by October 1st.

It must be 95 percent by November 1st.

Controversial issue of the gas levy: Economics Minister Habeck announces review

A controversial issue, however, is the gas surcharge, which according to the current status should be 2.419 cents per kilowatt hour.

Their design causes trouble, even within the traffic light coalition.

The main question is which companies should benefit from it.

Accordingly, companies that are not threatened by insolvency could also receive funds from the levy.

Robert Habeck (Greens) responded to the criticism.

The Federal Minister of Economics has announced that it will review the gas surcharge.

The group of authorized companies should be reduced as far as possible.

Friedrich Merz criticizes traffic light coalition for gas surcharge: Scholz and his cabinet have no plan

Friedrich Merz, CDU leader and parliamentary group leader of the Union in the Bundestag, is now taking the same line.

He criticized the traffic light coalition's disagreement over plans for the gas surcharge.

“A terrible war in Europe, rising energy prices and the risk of our economy going into a tailspin.

Right now a determined federal government is needed for clarity in uncertain times," said Merz of the German Press Agency.

“The traffic light should provide orientation and show responsibility.

Unfortunately, none." Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and his cabinet are at odds, they are hesitant "and apparently have no plan".

Such behavior unsettles the citizens and causes unrest.

Rising prices: Dobrindt accuses the traffic light coalition of “energy policy wrongdoing”.

Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), First Deputy Group Chairman, accused the traffic light government of leaving citizens alone with rising prices for fuel, electricity, heat and food.

"The energy-political mistake of the traffic light creates a high additional risk of a serious economic crisis for Germany," he warned.

Dobrindt also accused Habeck of a lack of courage when it came to energy policy.

He believes that nuclear power plants in Germany, which the Greens see rather critically, can run for several years longer.
