Likud attacks: the warnings of the Miron Committee - because of the elections Israel today

2022-08-30T14:23:17.723Z

After Netanyahu and Ohana were warned, the party criticized the move about two months before the elections: "It is unfortunate that the investigative committee established at the initiative of the Bennett-Lapid government chose to do so" • Zehava Galon: "Those warned should announce that they are withdrawing their candidacy for the Knesset"

The Likud party today (Tuesday) attacked the decision of the commission of inquiry into the Miron disaster to send warning letters, among others, to opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu and MK Amir Ohana, who served as prime minister and minister of internal security at the time of the disaster in which 45 people died.

Netanyahu at the investigative committee: "I didn't know there was a safety problem in Miron"

"Sending the warning letters during elections - political timing," the Likud said.

As a reminder, the elections for the 25th Knesset will be held on November 1.

Tragedy enters the electoral system.

"We share in the great pain of the families. Since the establishment of the state, no state investigative committee has sent warning letters to election candidates during an election period. It is unfortunate that the investigative committee established at the initiative of the Bennett-Lapid government chose to do so."

The warning to Netanyahu reads, among other things: "As someone who served as Prime Minister of Israel for over twelve consecutive years during the relevant period (from 2009 to 2021), former Prime Minister Netanyahu knew, or should have known, that the site of the Rashbi's grave in Meron has been treated for years in a manner Defective, which may create a risk for the many participants in the revelry that takes place every year in Lag Ba'Omer.

On Ohana it was written, among other things, that "former Minister of Internal Security Ohana did not act as expected of a Minister of Internal Security when he formed his opinion regarding the holding of the revelry in Miron in Lag BaOmer without an audience limit, and even gave it a public expression, without this being examined in an orderly staff work regarding the set of meanings, including Examining different alternatives as to how the revelry will be held."

The heart is with the victims of the terrible disaster in Miron and their families.

If there is a drop of integrity left in the blood of those who received warning letters today, they should announce that they are withdrawing their candidacy for the Knesset and any public office.

The chairman of Meretz Zehava Galon also responded to the sending of the warning letters: "My heart goes out to the victims of the terrible disaster in Miron and their families.

If there is a drop of integrity left in the blood of those who received warning letters today, they should announce that they are withdrawing their candidacy for the Knesset and for any public office."
