Today, the first conference specialized in medicinal and aromatic plants, “Green Investment”, concluded its sessions by discussing several axes related to investments in aromatic and medicinal plants, and the legislation and regulation of everything related to cultivation, industry, marketing and scientific research related to these plants.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatna, pointed out that the ministry has strategies, three specialized programs in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants, a financial support program, and two programs in agricultural scientific research.
Qatna indicated that there is 50 billion pounds in the Agricultural Support Fund and the ministry's readiness to support any integrated project, from production to the stage of distillation.
The minister pointed out the necessity of having a map for the cultivation of medicinal plants, identifying the necessary support programs for each specific region, and the importance of granting a quality certificate and a product certificate that supports the marketing of products.
The participation of the attendees, including researchers, farmers, technicians and investors, focused on the importance of encouraging investments based on sound scientific and technical foundations, the necessity of investing neglected areas and small holdings, and encouraging investment in industries that depend on these products.
The participants also focused on the need to introduce the financing services provided by the entities supporting small projects that meet the requirements of the segments concerned with the agricultural sector, stressing the need to form an agricultural registry to organize agricultural work and agricultural facilities, to issue legislation on contract agriculture, to reconsider previous legislation, and to create a body that brings together all entities related to plants. Medicinal and aromatic, and that the legislation should keep pace with neighboring countries, which will reflect positively on the marketing of products.
In a statement to SANA between Muhammad Janan, Secretary of the Damascus Chamber of Agriculture and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Conference, the conference was held in partnership between all parties concerned in this field, such as scientific research, doctors, businessmen, banks and banks to form an integrated circle for everything related to these plants and to organize the work of the public and private sectors. Specifically the small holdings to exploit all the available spaces in the countryside.
