Iran's ambassador and assistant representative to the United Nations, Zahra Ershidi, affirmed that the United States is violating international law and the Charter of the United Nations through its continuous support for terrorist groups and the occupation of areas in northeastern Syria.
Iran's Fars News Agency quoted Irshady as saying in a speech during the UN Security Council meeting on political and humanitarian developments in Syria that "it is necessary to provide humanitarian aid to Syria and political circumstances should not prevent the delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy... But this measure must be taken with full respect for the sovereignty of the Syrian people." This country, its territorial integrity and national unity,” calling for the abolition of unilateral coercive measures against Syria that impede the delivery of aid to the Syrian people and reconstruction.
With regard to the political process in Syria, my guidance renewed Iran’s firm and principled position and said, “The crisis in Syria must be resolved peacefully in accordance with the principles of international law, especially full respect for national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of countries… To achieve this goal, the occupation must be ended and full sovereignty restored to it over all its lands.”
Irshidi referred to the tripartite meeting of the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey within the framework of the Astana formula in Tehran on the 28th of last July, in which the firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria was reaffirmed and its push for a stable political process under the leadership and sovereignty of the Syrian people based on UN Security Council resolutions .
Iran's ambassador to the United Nations condemned the recent attacks by the Zionist entity on Syria and said that this entity continues to violate Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to carry out terrorist attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure inside it, adding, "Iran strongly condemns the continuation of these attacks and recognizes Syria's legitimate right to respond on the basis of law." The international community and the Charter of the United Nations, because the continuation of these criminal acts would lead to destabilization and escalation of tension in the region.”
Irshaidi stressed the need for the Security Council to abandon double standards and to explicitly condemn the Israeli entity's attacks and terrorist attacks on Syrian territory, which are a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international laws.
Irshadi indicated that Iran, as a responsible country, and in line with its international obligations, continues its efforts to support the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism.
