Swiss Alps: Glacier melt releases bodies and parts of plane wreckage
"The retreat of the glaciers brings to light more and more missing mountaineers who were reported missing several decades ago," writes the cantonal police of Valais in the statement.
At the beginning of August, wreckage of an airplane was discovered on the Aletsch Glacier between Jungfraufirn and Konkordiaplatz.
According to the police, according to initial findings, it is wreckage from a Piper Cherokee with the registration HB-OYL.
Which crashed in the region on June 30, 1968.
Salvage operations are planned and should start as soon as possible.
The glaciers in the Alps are melting.
The Swiss glaciers have halved due to climate change and the forecast for the future looks bleak.
Even in Austria, the glacier shrinkage can no longer be stopped.
