Tank discount and hybrid funding end - some car brands continue to pay

Two state subsidies for motorists are now or will soon be expiring – the tank discount and plug-in bonus are still available for these cars.

Has the tax break for mineral oil companies relieved drivers or increased industry profits?

The actual benefit of the tank discount can hardly be quantified correctly - also because the fuel prices only fell with a delay and are now picking up again prematurely before the end of the subsidy.

Tank discount and hybrid funding end - some car brands continue to pay

Similar uncertainty prevails with the environmental bonus for plug-in hybrids.

Whether the subsidy of up to 7,177.50 euros gross actually relieves the climate or only the wallets of drivers, who then still use more fuel than electricity, is a much-discussed question.

The fact is: Both state benefits are expiring.

The fuel discount ends in August, and the environmental bonus for hybrids with a plug at the turn of the year.

With the latter being practically impossible to get hold of due to the currently long delivery times for new cars.

Tank discount and hybrid promotion end - Stellantis and Ford step in for the state

However, the subsidies are not actually over for all motorists and buyers.

Because some car brands step in instead of the state and inject the money from their own funds - but only if you order a new vehicle.

The subsidies continue for these cars:

• Peugeot: fuel discount.

  The French brand from the Stellantis Group is extending the fuel discount for new buyers by one month until September 30th.

  When ordering a new Peugeot vehicle or leasing an immediately available model, the customer receives a fuel voucher worth 1,200 euros.

  The offer applies to conventionally powered models from the Peugeot 2008, 3008 and 5008 series as well as to the 308 and 508 sedan and station wagon.

• Jeep: environmental bonus.

  The off-road brand Jeep, which also belongs to Stellantis, guarantees buyers of a new car with a plug-in hybrid drive the currently valid environmental bonus.

  If the vehicle ordered is not delivered until the following year, the manufacturer steps in and grants a discount equal to the premium.

  This is up to 7,177.50 euros for the Renegade 4xe mini off-road vehicle and up to 5,981 euros for the larger Compass 4xe.

  The guarantee is valid for orders until September 30, 2022.

• Ford: environmental bonus.

  Buyers of the crossover Kuga with plug-in hybrid drive will also receive a discount from the manufacturer in the coming year in the amount of the current environmental bonus of up to 7,177.50 euros.

  This means that Ford has gone the furthest with its offer so far.

So far, there have been relatively few manufacturers who step in for the state with some of their models.
