The investigation committee of the Miron disaster sent warning letters today (Tuesday) to some of the witnesses who testified before it.

"The warning notices are given in accordance with the information collected by the committee so far," it was clarified.

"Therefore, it is possible that in the continuation of the committee's work it will be found that subjects that were not included in the notices must be included in the notices, or that there will be a need to send warning notices to additional parties."

"We wanted to express our perception, according to which senior public officials, who are granted extensive and significant powers, are required to bear responsibility accordingly," it said.

"In addition, as far as matters in senior public positions are concerned, we saw great importance in clarifying the norms of behavior expected of them, each according to their role and according to the matter. This is in order for these norms to be in front of the eyes of the entire subject in a public position. Along with this, we believed that it is right that we also deal with factors Others, whose functioning apparently had serious failures and directly related to the incident."

The committee emphasized that "to remove any doubt, this does not mean that the person who was not sent a warning notice by the committee is not responsible. Let us recall that in relation to the disaster, criminal investigations were opened by the Israel Police and the Police Investigations Department, which were suspended by the decision of the Attorney General. In addition, other bodies , such as the disciplinary division of the Israel Police, other disciplinary bodies or bodies that regulate professional branches, are authorized to examine the case of various involved parties. The committee's work does not prevent the relevant bodies from acting, each according to their authority and discretion."

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu, who was prime minister at the time of the Miron disaster, testified about a month ago before the investigative committee.

His testimony came at the end of 42 meetings and after hearing the testimony of 143 witnesses - and he was the last witness to testify before the committee.

Netanyahu was asked about his involvement in the decision-making ahead of the revelry in Miron, and said that he intervened only because of the epidemiological circumstances.

"The reason I intervened is because of the epidemiological issue," he said.

"A prime minister does not usually intervene in such events."

When asked if he sees himself as responsible for the disaster, Netanyahu said that he takes responsibility for the health issue only.

"If I had known that the decisions that were made were not followed - I would have taken care of it. But you can't take responsibility for what you don't know."

He was later asked if the State Comptroller's reports and the follow-up reports on Mount Miron were familiar to him and he replied in the negative.

"I didn't know there was a critical safety problem there," he testified.

"I didn't go into details, the prime minister can't do that, neither in Miron nor in countless other cases. But the prime minister's office is working to make sure things are implemented."

Eyewitnesses, family members of the victims, police officers, planning staff, members of the committee of five who manage the complex and other professionals related to the management of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai's grave testified before the committee.

She left Netanyahu's testimony for the end, when she has all the relevant materials in her hands.

The former prime minister's testimony came after a week earlier, the commander of the North District of the police, Superintendent Shimon Lavi, resigned.

Lavi justified his resignation as taking responsibility, but apparently also willingly to pre-empt the committee's warning letter.
