The school year in Israel will open tomorrow (Thursday), and millions of children and boys across the country will return to kindergartens, elementary schools, and middle schools. Some of those students shared with Walla their feelings about returning to school, which comes at the end of nine months of exhausting negotiations between the Ministry of Finance and teachers and two months of vacation big.



"After the last two and a half years we have experienced instability in studies - from the corona to the security operations and the threats of a strike, I am excited to start the first year which will hopefully be stable and normal", shared Tom Sherzer Bar, a 10th grade student at the Alliance School in Tel Aviv. "I arrived in Israel with many concerns. But now that I have already met the principal and some teachers, I am excitedly waiting to start my studies at my new school," he said.

"I've even learned the first word in Hebrew and it's 'peace'. I really want to learn to speak Hebrew, so that I can make new friends and succeed in my studies."

Omer Amor, a 1st grade student at Avner Barzani High School in Tirat Carmel, told how she prepares for the new year.

I have a lot of friends who will be with me in class and I am already looking forward to meeting my teacher and new friends.

Mika Elimelech from Ashkelon, who is visually impaired and studies at the Elia Kindergarten in Rehovot, said that she is excited to start the school year in the kindergarten's senior group. She is most excited to see and hear her kindergartner Hila, whose hug makes Mika realize that she is seen.

Yossi Krichevsky, a 6th grade student who suffers from a neurological disease called Duchenne, attends the Chabad Springs School in Be'er Sheva. He wished "all the students good luck and I am happy that the school has an elevator, and thanks to it I can get anywhere in the Talmud Torah area."

Daniel Zinman, who is entering the third grade, recently suffered a great loss as his brother Matan was killed in a car accident a month ago.

Tomorrow he will arrive at his class at the Ahel Shiloh Boys' School in Shiloh, and said that he is "very happy to be back, I missed my friends. I like sports and Torah class."



Romem Ben Israel, a 6th grade student at the Achava school in Dimona, shared that this is an exciting day for him.

"It's fun for me to know that I go to a school where all the children of the Hebrew community study together, and come with our authentic clothing."

The Achava school is a vegan school of the Hebrew community.

Ben Israel wished to meet this year also students who are not from the community.

"It is true that the house belongs to the Jewish community from Dimona, but most of the teachers are Israelis not from the community, sometimes I would like to see other Israeli students at the school as well, it is very interesting to me", he shared.



This morning the Ministry of Finance and the Teachers Union announced understandings in principle on a new salary agreement for the teaching staff.

At the same time, the secondary teachers' organization announced that it would prevent the opening of classes, but the state has not yet taken steps in this regard.



According to the understandings, the monthly salary of beginning teachers will increase by 30% - from 6,920 to 9,000 shekels.

In addition, a persistence grant of NIS 10,000 will be given after three years in the system.

In addition, administrators will be able to award grants to outstanding teachers appointed to certain positions in the educational institution, of up to one thousand shekels.

It was also determined that the salary of the beginning managers will rise to NIS 19,000.
