Mega million in the United States: a gain of 1.3 billion still not recovered by the winner

A winning ticket won the second biggest win in American lottery history at the end of July. Since then, its owner has still not come forward.

This is one of the biggest wins in American lottery history.

And yet, the lucky winner of 1.33 billion dollars at “Mega Millions” on July 30 has still not come to collect his jackpot.

The only clues: he comes from Illinois and bought his ticket at a SpeedWay gas station, not far from the city of Chicago, on July 29.

According to the rules of the lottery of this American state, the winner has one year to collect his prize.

The latter therefore has until July 30, 2023 before the sum is returned and distributed to the lotteries of the various States.

For specialists, such a situation is not unusual.

“For a prize of this magnitude, it is not uncommon for the winner to take a long time to claim.

underlines Harold Mays, the director of the Illinois lottery.

Lottery managers also recommend that winners put their signature on the back of their ticket and store it in a safe place.

If the lucky one comes to claim his prize, he is not obliged to reveal his identity to the general public: those who pocket at least 250,000 dollars can remain anonymous.

"We will work closely with the winner to respect all of their wishes for privacy and we will support them in any way we can to ensure they have a good experience of their achievement,"

added Harold Mays.

If this summer 2022 win is the second largest in Mega Millions, it remains behind that of October 2008 when an American won $1.54 billion.
