Stop the hunger strike: Islamic Jihad prisoner to be released in October

The security prisoner who was arrested by administrative order and the Islamic Jihad activist, Khalil Awawada, announced this evening (Wednesday) that he has stopped his hunger strike, after an agreement was signed between Israel and his lawyers and he will be released in early October.

Awawada was arrested about nine months ago, and sat on hunger strike for about 170 days.

According to the Islamic Jihad, as part of the ceasefire at the end of Operation "Dawn", Israel agreed to release him together with the leader of the terrorist organization in Samaria, Bassem al-Saadi.

Last week there was a significant deterioration in Awaveda's health condition.

"I'm staying in the hospital until I can stand on my feet," Awawada said.

"Thanks to everyone who helped me and prayed for me."

Last week, an indictment was filed against Bassem al-Saadi, the Islamic Jihad senior official whose arrest led to the "Dawn" operation, for membership in a terrorist organization, providing aid to the enemy and incitement.

According to the charges, al-Saadi helped another operative in the terrorist organization to start a prohibited student movement.

Al-Saadi was also accused of making statements that could influence public opinion and harm public peace.

In the previous discussion of his case, a senior Jihad official said upon entering "Blessings for the martyrs."

His lawyer, Ahlam Haddad, claimed that his words, which were suspected of being incitement, were said by virtue of being a "political commentator".

"Regarding the issue of incitement, which seems to be the main offense in this case, my client stated that his statement in this matter is as a political commentator and not as the owner of that account, or that he is inciting the authorities in front of people. He is doing his job as a political commentator and not as an inciter regarding the criminals who allegedly exist, it seems that this is In testimonies based on hearsay testimony, therefore in my opinion it is possible to be released from custody."
