The 9-euro ticket expires: Federal Minister of Transport Wissing announces a successor regulation.
Berlin – Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) insists on modernization and joint financing by the federal and state governments when it comes to a successor regulation for the nine-euro ticket.
The first thing to be discussed is better tariff structures in local public transport and the contribution of the federal states - "then the federal government is of course also ready to put something on the table," said Wissing on Deutschlandfunk.
The nine-euro ticket introduced in June expires on Wednesday.
Wissing said that people "closed their hearts" to the nine-euro ticket, and that he himself suggested it.
Now there must be “something new”, a “more modern ticket”.
He wants simplified tariff structures and digitization in public transport.
"We have to put everything to the test." Two billion euros in sales costs - "we can't leave it like that".
9-euro ticket “throughout Germany”?
The Minister of Transport spoke out in favor of public transport tickets “which are valid throughout Germany and which are easier to purchase”.
In the end, the pricing must also be "attractive," he said, without going into detail.
"We will put a modern public transport ticket on the table," assured Wissing.
According to Transport Minister Wissing, there should be a successor to the 9-euro ticket.

The nine-euro ticket enabled travel on all local public transport in Germany for June, July and August for nine euros each.
The ticket was one of several measures taken by the federal government to relieve consumers in view of the massive increase in energy prices.
The federal states are demanding a successor plan;
The crux of the matter is funding.
