Many times in our daily lives halachic questions arise and topical doubts arise.

Rabbi Shai Tahan, head of the Sha'ari Ezra community and head of Beit Erzi HaLebanon, makes the laws accessible to us and answers questions asked in the Beit Midrash and outside of it.

And this time: eating food in a hotel that was prepared on Shabbat.

Question

:

Hello, Your Honor.

I wanted to ask whether in hotels where snacks are served on Shabbat, the guests are allowed to take from them to eat after Shabbat or is this prohibited due to preparation?

Answer

:

Hello and blessing.

Excellent question, but it is worth explaining to those who are not familiar with the content of the question.

Since the Sabbath is a holy day that we are obligated to respect, therefore anyone who bothers with something that is not for the purpose of the Sabbath is considered to be disrespecting the holiness of the Sabbath, and therefore we are forbidden to bother on this holy day with anything that is not for the Sabbath (Graz C. Shelah Sah), including this prohibition For us sages to offer the beds on Shabbat for the Shabbat mochas (Shabbat Kig, 1) as well as to wash the dishes for the Shabbat mochas (Shabbat Kih, 2).

And here, regarding the question of his honor, he already wrote in the Shu'at and heard Moshe (Heb. "1 C. sa) that the forbidden preparation is only if the person intends to gain time after the Sabbath, but if he bothers about something not in order to gain time but because if he does not bother about it now he will not have the thing after the Sabbath, it must be permitted, and therefore also here because if he does not He should keep the delicacies now, there will be no going after Shabbat, it must be permitted.
