1.3 trillion dollars: Poland will demand reparations from Germany for World War II
About 6 million Poles, including 3 million Jews, were murdered during World War II, and the city of Warsaw was almost completely destroyed.
In 1953, the rulers of Poland waived German reparations, under pressure from the Soviet Union.
Now, Germany firmly refuses the call: "The question of reparations is closed, Poland gave it up a long time ago"

Poland will demand reparations from Germany for World War II - this is what the leader of the country's ruling party announced today (Thursday).
According to him, Poland estimates its losses in World War II at 6.2 trillion zlotys, 1.32 trillion dollars - almost 4.5 trillion shekels.
The ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) has called for the payment of reparations several times since coming to power in 2015, but has not officially demanded them.
In 2019, it claimed that the losses were about 850 billion dollars.
"The amount that was presented was estimated in the most limited way and it will be possible to increase it," stated the head of the party and Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Jaroslav Kaczynski.

About six million Poles, including three million Jews, were murdered during World War II.
In the 1944 Warsaw Uprising of the Polish underground against the German army, about 200,000 civilians were killed and the city was almost completely destroyed.
In 1953, the then communist rulers of Poland waived all war reparations from Germany, this under pressure from the Soviet Union.
Germany, Poland's largest trading partner, claims on the other hand that all financial claims related to World War II have been settled.
"The position of the German government remains the same: the question of reparations has been closed," stated the spokesman of the German Foreign Ministry.
"Poland gave up reparations a long time ago," he mentioned.
The leader of the opposition in Poland, Donald Tusk, claimed that this was a political campaign on the part of the ruling party.
"The statement is not about compensation, but to rebuild support for the party," he said.
