A former Chinese vice minister in charge of anti-corruption in China's Ministry of Public Security has been expelled from the Communist Party for "

abuse of power

" and corruption, the CCP said.

Liu Yanping "

was a member of Sun Lijun's political gang

" and played golf and hosted banquets, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) internal disciplinary body said in a statement.

This expulsion comes after that of two other senior officials, Fu Zhenghua and Sun Lijun, also expelled for corruption in 2021. The former justice minister, Fu Zhenghua, pleaded guilty to charges of corruption and embezzlement of the law for personal gain.

Former Deputy Minister of Public Security Sun Lijun was arrested in April 2020. He confessed on television to having received bribes of 13 million euros.

The CCP's internal disciplinary body also announced on Thursday the party's expulsion for corruption of Wang Bin, former chairman of the China Life Insurance Company, and former vice governor of Liaoning Province Hao. Chunrong.

The former vice-governor of Gansu province (northwest), Song Liang, was sentenced to life imprisonment this week for accepting bribes.

For his part, the Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Xiao Yaqing, is under investigation for corruption.

These investigations are revealed a few weeks before an important congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) which should, except surprise, authorize President Xi Jinping in October to lead a third term at the head of the party.

Since Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, at least one and a half million CCP cadres have been punished for corruption.

Lai Xiaomin, the ex-chairman of Huarong, one of the largest state-controlled asset management companies, was executed in January 2021, accused of accepting bribes of 215 million euros.

This campaign, hailed by public opinion, is also suspected by its detractors of being used to ward off political opponents within the presidential camp.
