The 9-euro ticket has expired – and the prices for bus and train are already rising.

In Würzburg and Nuremberg, among other places, it is becoming more expensive.

Munich/Nuremberg/Würzburg – Many had already feared it, including Arnulf Schuchmann, Managing Director of the Bavarian Regional Railway, who predicted it just a few days ago: With the end of the 9-euro ticket, which will lose its validity on September 1st, the ticket prices for local public transport jump back to their previous level - and in some cases even become more expensive.

Public transport prices in Bavaria are increasing: buses and trains are becoming more expensive

It is already clear that public transport prices are becoming more expensive in many regions of Bavaria.

Example Nuremberg: According to BR, the tickets in the VGN cost 3.02 percent more.

The day ticket for the entire area of the VGN will cost 22.10 euros instead of 21.50 euros.

The subscription for the Nuremberg city area will in future cost EUR 63.40 – previously it was EUR 61.60.

The reason for the price increase is the rising energy costs.

In order to be able to maintain the existing offer, the prices have to be adjusted, writes the BR.

The Mainfranken transport association (VVM) is also becoming more expensive – by 2.9 percent.

The Augsburger Verkehrsverbund (AVV) agrees, but without giving specific information.

Here, too, reference is made to the exploding energy costs.

More expensive tickets due to the energy crisis: How is the rest of Bavaria handling the price explosions?

The other large transport associations are still waiting to decide whether, and if so, by how much the ticket prices will now rise.

In Munich (MVV), the decision is to be made in mid-September, but here too there is already talk of a probable tariff adjustment due to rising personnel and energy costs.

The Regensburger Verkehrsverbund (RVV) will decide on rising ticket prices in October, but also speaks of higher cost points that play a role.

The transport associations are open to follow-up regulations with regard to the 9-euro ticket, which in retrospect is seen as a success, above all in terms of the simplified tariff structures – for customers and operators.

The topic is already being discussed at the political level, most recently with the report that Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) was able to convince Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) that a modern ticket system would be appropriate in principle.
