Raphael Grossi, the chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency, is expected to arrive at the head of a team of inspectors to the largest power plant in Europe, which was hit by shelling last week.

The chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency, Raphael Grossi, headed out this morning (Thursday) at the head of a team of inspectors towards the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, while in Kiev there were reports of heavy shelling at towns around the plant.

Grossi said upon leaving the city of Zaporizhia towards the power plant that he and his men are aware of the risk and the "increased military activity" but they intend to visit the power plant, which was hit by gunfire several times in the past week.

The lie exposed: Russian military equipment at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is located 50 kilometers south of the city, near the Dnieper River and the town of Ankhorder.

In the past it was reported that the Russians are using the huge station complex to fire artillery fire and missiles at the city of Nikopol, which is under the control of the Ukrainian army, on the other side of the river.

Documentation taken by workers at the station, along with aerial photographs, proved beyond any doubt that the Russian army does store heavy weapons and military vehicles on the station's premises, sometimes a few meters from the reactor buildings themselves.

The damage to the nuclear power plant building in Zaporizhia,

Russia announced earlier this week that they would allow the international inspection team to visit the site and claimed that the Ukrainian army is the one that is regularly shelling the station.

Yesterday the administration building of the station was damaged and in Kyiv they claimed that it was a planned Russian sabotage with the aim of sabotaging the visit of the agency's delegation.

Documentation revealed this week from the station showed that a building used to store spent fuel rods, an extremely radioactive material, was hit by a shell.

The facility is located a few meters from one of the six active nuclear reactors at the station.

Damage to such a facility could end in a nuclear accident and damage to one of the beams could cause an unprecedented disaster.
