The latest survey by the E.Leclerc New Consumption Observatory shows that nearly one in three young people skips a meal, for lack of means.

It is a study that sounds the alarm on the financial situation of part of the youth in France.

According to the latest survey by the E.Leclerc New Consumption Observatory, which probes the purchasing power of young people aged 18 to 30, they find themselves with a limited budget each month.

On the observation, first of all, 34% of this age group consider that money is

“an essential condition for being happy in their life”.

For 59%, it remains

“important”

.

De facto, 41% of them explain that their means do not really allow them to meet their “

essential needs

”.

Or even don't answer them at all.

Especially for young people living in rural areas (54%) or workers (61%).

Young job seekers and new parents regularly tell themselves that their purchasing power is tight.

Conclusion, almost one in two respondents (49%) is pessimistic about the evolution of their budget.

With the fear of living in a precarious situation in the coming years.

A feeling more present also among young parents (57%) than among those who are under 20 (39%).

One in four young people say they live on less than 50 euros per week.

Two out of three young people live on less than 100 euros.

All expenses are concerned, including food, hygiene or housing.

32% even skip some meals

Faced with a tight portfolio, this age group must therefore make trade-offs.

52% of them consider being within

"5 euros when shopping"

.

38% of 18-30 year olds also reduce their quantity of food and 32% even skip certain meals.

49% of respondents have already asked their loved ones for money for food when a third have already used food banks or Restos du Coeur.

In this sometimes limited budget, it's not just the food that counts.

Some young people, for lack of means, limit their expenses in terms of transport (58%), hygiene (52%) or even health (46%).

68% of young people also give up certain hobbies: going on vacation, going out with friends or buying clothes.

In short, 75% of 18-30 year olds consider that their financial constraints have a

“negative impact”

on their morale, their psychological balance and their quality of life.
