The traditional restaurant "Zum Franziskaner" in downtown Munich - it has existed for more than 600 years - is being renovated.

Munich – Something is happening in downtown Munich.

The traditional restaurant Zum Franziskaner (Perusastraße 5/Residenzstraße 9) is to be renovated, and the local building commission has also received an application for the construction of a new office and commercial building at Perusastraße 7.

The restaurant Zum Franziskaner has existed in the prominent location for more than 600 years and is very popular – not only with tourists, but also with local residents enjoying white sausages and the famous meat loaf.

The Munich host family Reinbold has been running the traditional inn near the opera for more than 50 years.

It will stay that way, the restaurateurs had a lease contract with Löwenbräu for many years, but for a while now a new contract with the owner of the property, i.e. Amira SE.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung

had initially

reported on this.

"The fact that we have to renovate now is quite logical"

"The fact that we have to renovate now is quite logical," says Edi Reinbold, the senior boss of the host family, the

.

However, the conversion is still a long way off.

"This is a new contractual situation, you have to talk about it now."

In March, the local building commission issued a building permit for the partial demolition and conversion of the restaurant and for changes to the escape routes.

A spokesman confirmed this when asked by our newspaper.

"In addition to some structural changes inside the building, which also include the demolition of individual components, the hall building in the back building to Perusastraße 7 will essentially be demolished.

A start of construction has not yet been announced."

Amira SE is also the owner of the property at Perusastraße 7, which housed the Munich shoe store Thomas until the beginning of August.

After 43 years, it has changed location because of the new building - and only a few meters away.

Schuhhaus Thomas can now be found in the sales rooms of the former Tretter shop at Weinstrasse 9 near the town hall.
