Twitter concretely launches the test of its button allowing the modification of tweets

The company has been working on this tool for several years, acclaimed by Elon Musk when he was considering buying it.

Tired of deleting a poorly written tweet to rewrite it entirely?

It may be over soon.

Twitter, which has been working for several months on a button to correct a message already published, has moved to a new stage by concretely testing the “Edit Tweet” functionality.

This option has long been requested by some users of the social network, who regret not being able to modify messages containing errors or unwelcome formulations, because they were written too quickly or under the influence of emotion.

Version history of tweets could be accessible

Elon Musk, currently in a legal battle with Twitter over the takeover of the platform, has repeatedly supported this request.

The group finally gave in and announced in April that they were working on this possibility.

On Thursday, he clarified that the feature was currently being tested by his internal teams and that it would be available to subscribers to the paid Twitter Blue plan "in the coming weeks".

A formula currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

"As with any new feature, we are voluntarily testing the Edit Tweet feature with a limited audience to help us identify and fix potential issues before making it available to everyone," Twitter said in a statement.

“Through testing, we hope to quickly understand how it is used and its impact on how people read and write tweets,” the group adds.

The test will not necessarily be permanent for all users of the social network, specifies a spokesperson.

As currently designed, the new feature allows tweets to be edited multiple times within 30 minutes of posting, and edited tweets will be accompanied by symbols clearly indicating that the original post has been corrected.

It will be possible to access earlier versions of the message.

This should “protect the integrity of the conversation” and “allow everyone to see what was said,” says Twitter.
