A man died in a tragic construction site accident in Munich.

Munich – Fatal accident on a construction site in Sendlinger Schäftlarnstrasse: a worker died on Thursday afternoon (September 1) shortly before 2 p.m.

"When working on the construction site, colleagues noticed that the 65-year-old was suddenly no longer in his place - at a height of about 45 meters -" says the Munich fire brigade, describing the terrible incident in a press release.

Workers quickly found that the man had fallen almost 15 meters through an opening in the ground and was lying lifeless on a manhole cover.

“While colleagues were still dialing the emergency number, others rushed to the accident victim and pulled him off the cover.

Since they found a circulatory arrest, they began resuscitation measures," writes the fire brigade in relation to the following minutes.

Emergency services from the Munich fire brigade and the rescue service were guided to the scene of the accident by colleagues from the construction worker.

They described the situation as follows: The employee who had fallen was lying 30 meters up on the construction site - in an area that was "not at risk of falling".

When the victim arrived, the emergency services intensified the resuscitation measures that had already begun.

"The operations managers decided to move quickly to the shock room of a Munich clinic, where the construction worker who fell died shortly afterwards," says the press release on the sad outcome of the operation.

The responsible police department is now investigating the cause of the accident.
