Edeka is known for conducting tough price wars with well-known manufacturers.
Now the dispute with the fizzy drink manufacturer Coca-Cola has escalated.
Hamburg – Germany's largest supermarket chain has done it again: The Edeka association has teamed up with another consumer goods giant – as it did at the beginning of the year with Milka manufacturer Mondelez or beverage manufacturer Eckes-Granini.
This time the price war with the US company Coca-Cola has escalated.
Edeka: Coca-Cola products are being phased out
The well-known beverage manufacturer will demand more money for its products from September 1st.
But not all supermarkets agree with the price increase.
Once again, Edeka is consistently opposed to the requirement – with consequences for customers.
An internal Edeka announcement shows that Coca-Cola is stopping delivery to the stores.
The food newspaper reports.
Accordingly, in the letter, Edeka complained about a "unilaterally announced price increase demand from Coca-Cola, the amount of which lacks any factual basis." However, Coca-Cola has not yet confirmed that there will be a delivery stop.
Edeka: First gaps in the Coca-Cola shelf
But things are already looking different in the stores.
Customers have already discovered the first signs on the drinks shelves, which point to the dispute.
It reads: "Dear customers, unfortunately we have to inform you that Coca-Cola is not able to deliver." In Edeka circles, however, it is also said that the dealer is still negotiating with the beverage group .
The goal is “reasonable conditions”.

In any case, Edeka's persistence seems to be well received by customers.
There are numerous comments on social networks such as: “At Edeka there are always small notes hanging on empty shelves, where they point out that there are no Snickers or the like for the time being because of price wars.
I think it's good." Another user writes: "It's nice that someone shows their forehead to Coca-Cola."
