The decision came after the Argentine Federal Police arrested a man who apparently tried to attack Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner with a firearm.
In his message to the Argentine nation, Fernández declared that "this event is extremely serious, it is the most serious that has happened since we have recovered our democracy."
"I have arranged to declare tomorrow, a national holiday, so that in peace and harmony the Argentine people can express themselves in defense of life, democracy and in solidarity with our vice president. The Argentine people want to live in democracy and in peace and our government is firmly committed to working every day to achieve this," the president announced.
The weapon used in the failed assassination attempt on the Argentine vice president was a .380 caliber pistol with bullets, according to the Security Ministry.

The suspect was detained by the Argentine Federal Police and has been identified as a citizen of Brazilian origin named Fernando Andre Sabag Montiel.
