Who needs another vacation abroad? This is what the southern resort city will look like in a few years - and there's something to wait • On the menu: upgrading the beaches, new hotels, bike paths and a new promenade • "An unprecedented project"

There is reason to wait:

Eilat is undoubtedly Israel's resort city, but in recent years there has been a feeling that many Israelis prefer to vacation overseas, and foreign tourists rarely vacation in Eilat and prefer to go to Sinai and Jordan.

The Ministry of Tourism decided to promote an ambitious plan, at the end of which Eilat will look completely different from anything we have known until now.

The beaches will undergo a significant change and upgrade, many hotels of different levels will be built, which should help lower hotel prices in the city, and tourist infrastructure will be developed in order to compete with Sinai and Jordan.

These also attract a lot of tourists from Israel who park their car in Eilat, and spend their vacation across the border.

will be upgraded

According to the plans, in the first phase the infrastructure on the beaches will be upgraded and changing rooms and showers will be built, the beaches will be accessible to the disabled, facilities for the public's welfare will be built and regulated cells will be erected.

The first phase of the program has already begun, and those who come to Eilat these days can see works in the various areas of the beaches.

According to estimates, by next summer, and probably even before that, the vacationers who will come to the beaches of Eilat will be able to enjoy a different experience with more organized and pleasant beaches.

The plan is much broader and is expected to be completed in about six years, and as part of it, many more beaches will be opened for the welfare of vacationers, according to estimates almost twice the area of the bathing beaches that exist today.

The beaches of the southern city, which are spread over about 12 km from Aqaba to Taba, will be divided into two parts.

In one part, the northern part, a new promenade will be built that will include restaurants, entertainment areas and shops.

Bicycle paths will be established that will allow cycling for kilometers and shading solutions will be established along most of the area of the new northern boardwalk.

Will they move to the mountains?

The southern part, which will be called "Ein Sof", will be completely different.

The desert landscape will be preserved, hotels will be built that match the style of Ein Sof, including some that will be built in the mountains with a view of the sea.

In the southern part of the beach, emphasis will be placed on diving, surfing and snorkeling.

The road that passes through the area will be moved away from the beach in order to create a wider recreation area near the beaches.

For the new traveler communities, desert accommodation complexes will be established on the side of the mountain facing the beach, with surfers' and divers' villages and special desert accommodation.

And the great news - the prices are expected to be affordable.

"The project will settle a reality of many years of neglect."
