Wolves are in Germany: In search of food, they attack grazing cattle, but also ponies.
Now it has hit a special one.
Animal rights activists are happy, farmers are concerned: the wolf is also becoming at home again in this country.
It is spreading rapidly in Germany.
In the 19th century it was thought to have been eradicated, but after the end of the Cold War it migrated to our region from Eastern Europe.
There are currently 157 packs nationwide, 39 of them in Lower Saxony.
Nature lovers cheer – many rural residents are afraid.

Accordingly, some sightings are said to have already been reported.

In Tyrol, a pair of wolves has even been released for shooting, but animal rights activists protest.

A wolf has now attacked a very special one in Beinhorn in Lower Saxony.
This is the pony called "Dolly" from EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (63)!

Her family lives there on a large farm where they keep many horses.
The politician has lived on the idyllic property with her husband Heiko and their seven children since 2007. The 63-year-old is a passionate rider herself, has taken part in tournaments and keeps horses and ponies in her home town of Lower Saxony.
It is said to have been her husband who found the pony's carcass in the pasture in the morning.

: "The whole family is terribly upset by the news." Next to Pony Dolly there was another one, but that was said to have been scared and spared by the wolf.
After the tragic find, an employee of the Chamber of Agriculture and a veterinarian drove to the von der Leyens' farm and are said to have taken samples.
It is said that this is not the first incident of this type in the area.
A few days ago, not far from another village, three ponies were also torn by wolves.
In Baden-Württemberg, on the other hand, three golden jackals have been sighted and they even breed there.
