In a speech, US President Joe Biden criticized parts of the Republican Party and his predecessor Donald Trump.

PHILADELPHIA – Incumbent US President Joe Biden has branded his predecessor Donald Trump and his political allies a threat to US democracy.

"Donald Trump and the Maga Republicans embody an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic," Biden said in a combative speech in the city of Philadelphia on Thursday evening (local time).

In his prime-time speech, Biden called on US citizens to defend democracy.

Biden received criticism, among other things, because of the red backlighting during his speech.

A well-known Republican used the lighting as an opportunity for an absurd comparison.

Joe Biden: "Equality and democracy are under attack"

Maga is the abbreviation of Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again" and is used as a term for the ex-president's movement and political orientation.

"Equality and democracy are under attack," Biden said in front of the historic Independence Hall building, where the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were passed.

“Maga Republicans do not respect the Constitution.

They don't believe in the rule of law.

They do not recognize the will of the people.

They refuse to recognize the results of free elections.”

The president also accused Trump and his camp of inciting political violence a few months before the November midterm elections.

"Maga Republicans" would feed on "anger" and "chaos".

“There is no place for political violence in America.

Point.

none.

Never."

Hitler comparison: Republican makes a grotesque comparison

In response to Biden's speech, right-wing populist Republican Marjorie Green tweeted: "I assume since President Butterbeans is frail, weak and demented, the Hitler iconography was their attempt to make him look strong while representing half of America as an enemy of the state declared.” An edited video of Joe Biden’s speech can be seen below her statement.

In the fake, Biden can be seen with a narrow mustache.

Two swastikas can be seen in the background.

A speech by Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler is cut over the video.

The Trump loyalist is a popular figure in her party and was recently elected to office.

Joe Biden: President relativizes his criticism

At the same time, Biden emphasized that "not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans" are "Maga Republicans".

“Not every Republican subscribes to their extreme ideology.

But there is no doubt that today the Republican Party is dominated, led and intimidated by Donald Trump and the Maga Republicans.

And that is a threat to this country.”

Trump reacted on his online network Truth Social and accused Biden of being unfit for the presidency.

He, too, took up his campaign slogan "Make America Great Again" and wrote: If Biden does not want to make America great again - and that Biden does not want that is shown by "words, actions and thoughts" - then the Democrat should "make the United States certainly not represented by America".
