French officials say nearly 190 migrants who tried to cross the Channel Channel between northern France and southern England have been rescued during a series of relief operations.
And the website of the Russia Today channel quoted the coast authorities, Brimar, as saying in a statement that in the early hours of yesterday morning, about 60 people were rescued off the French coast, and 50 others were rescued at a later time and returned to French territory.
The French gendarmerie forces were also called, which rescued 47 people off the northern coast, while 29 others were rescued later the same day.
Brimar's statement said nearly 190 people had been rescued in less than 24 hours and an increasing number of migrants seeking to reach England were trying to cross the Channel in dilapidated boats after authorities imposed increased security at Calais port and the Channel Tunnel.
It is noteworthy that the sea transit is dangerous because the canal is considered one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
