The Superbloom Festival 2022 attracted thousands to the Olympic Park in Munich.

However, it got pretty sticky in a few places.

Some fans don't mince words.

Munich – Finally dancing again, partying, having fun!

The Superbloom Festival took place in the Olympic Park at the weekend.

A colorful program with musicians, artists and performers attracted tens of thousands of people.

However, the balance of the weekend is mixed – criticism of the organization was voiced, especially on social media.

Superbloom Festival: The start went smoothly, but then the mood changed

The start went smoothly: visitors flocked to the festival site, the mood exuberant, happy.

"It's a moment that you do your work for," says Fruzsina Szép (44), the organizer of the festival.

The Superbloom had to be postponed for two years because of Corona, so the joy was all the greater that it could finally start.

The location of their event, the Olympic Park, has a special meaning for Szép: "I grew up with a blind dad and used to take him for walks in the Olympic Park," she says.

"He taught me to feel and experience the world with all my senses." That was also part of the idea for Superbloom - a festival for all senses.

In addition to around 60 concerts on several stages by superstars such as Macklemore, Calvin Harris or Rita Ora and countless other artists, artists and dancers performed from 11 a.m. to midnight, activists and podcasters provided information about their work.

There was a "MiniBloom" with music, magicians and small surprises for the little festival visitors.

Some families were also out and about: "My older daughter loves festivals, so we all wanted to go together," says Wolfgang (45), who came from Memmingen with his wife and daughters.

Denise (21) and Jana (23) also came from Stuttgart.

"It's our first time at a festival and we think it's great," says Denise, glitter on her face and green sunglasses on her nose.

Superbloom Festival in Munich: bad weather puts many people in a bad mood

Around 4 p.m., not only the weather changed, but also the mood.

A violent thunderstorm broke over the city, the sky above the Olympic Stadium was black.

The organizers instructed the visitors to shelter themselves, the program was interrupted for about an hour and a half.

To the displeasure of the guests, the food and drink stands also closed.

“Overflowing toilets, endless queues at the supply stands.

Finally give us some info!!!”, one participant scolded on Facebook.

"I don't know why everyone is upset about the Superbloom"

Others still had fun - when the storm had passed, they happily trudged to the concerts.

"I don't know why everyone is upset about the Superbloom.

Had such a nice day yesterday and I'm really looking forward to today," wrote a festival visitor enthusiastically on Twitter on Sunday.

Superbloom Anger about Calvin Harris' performance: Stage closed – many fans go away empty-handed

Criticism was raised again later on Saturday evening: For safety and capacity reasons, the Olympic Stadium was closed when headliner Calvin Harris performed.

People tried to squeeze through the barriers, demanding their money back.

This is how the Superbloom organizers react to the criticism

The Superbloom organizers showed understanding for the criticism.

"We don't want to hide from criticism," emphasized Szép on Sunday.

The stadium had to be closed for security reasons.

“A lot of people came to the stadium in a short time.

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to communicate that everyone was positioned so that other people could come in," said Szép.

This too should be improved in the future.

“Of course it should be so that you as a spectator can see all the performances.

We will work on it.”

Because: Superbloom is to take place again next year on September 1st in the Olympic Park.

The people of Munich can look forward to a festival that is just as colourful, diverse and varied in 2023.
