Olga and Bogdan live with their four children and three grandparents in the Donetsk region - in the immediate vicinity of the front.
Bogdan, resident
»They keep shooting at us, there is no help, no water, no food.
They haven't brought us anything for exactly a month.
Not even bread.
We live on what we have here.«
The rumble of Russian artillery is part of everyday life for the family.
Once, a bullet just missed her house.
Bogdan, resident
"The grenade flew this way to the neighbors and left this path."
The family has been without electricity and gas for more than a month.
Pereizne is east of Kramatorsk.
Before the war, 500 people lived here, now there is danger of life here.
Ukraine is currently trying to evacuate two-thirds of the residents of eastern Donbass before winter.
The evictions are considered mandatory, but some people remain.
Olga and Bogdan don't want to leave either.
Olga: Resident
»Our house is not particularly unusual, but it is our home.
We made money to build it.«
The couple also built their own air-raid shelter.
They trust that small space will protect them and their children from the worst.
Bogdan, resident
»We have more or less everything we need here in the basement.
If they shoot at us, we'll eat here.
Of course we usually eat in the courtyard, but the children are always in the basement.«
Bogdan and Olga grow their own food, bake their own bread and fetch water from a nearby well.
Enough to survive - and yet everyday life in Pereizne remains hard, for parents and children.
Olga, resident
»As adults, we know what to do.
But what, for example, will he do?
He's four years old and thank God he still doesn't understand that there's war."
An end to the fighting is not in sight.
The next family member will probably be born during the war - Olga is currently expecting her fifth child.
