The Secretary for Development, Ning Hon-ho, published a blog today (4th), stating that the Drainage Services Department has completed 27 village flood control plans to protect low-lying villages. Among them, the San Tin Village Flood Control Plan covers 7 low-lying villages, involving a total of about 51 The hectare area, equivalent to 2.5 Victoria Parks, protects about 3,500 residents.

She also pointed out that the department tested the first floating solar power generation system at the San Tin Stormwater Storage Tank. Even when Typhoon Siamba hit Hong Kong in early July, it was confirmed that the system performed well, so she was confident to consider installing related systems in other stormwater storage tanks. .

Ning Hanhao said that the Drainage Services Department held an open day for the Santian rainwater pumping station earlier. Among them, the flood storage tank of the Santian Village Flood Control Project has a surface area of about 16,400 square meters, which is equivalent to about 13 standard swimming pools. The largest flood storage pond in China, becoming the department's first pilot floating solar power system.

The electricity produced is sufficient to supply the Xintian stormwater pumping station

Ning Hanhao pointed out that the power generation system was completed at the beginning of this year and consists of 70 solar photovoltaic panels.

She said that there were many challenges at the beginning. The engineering team needed to consider external factors such as wind, rainfall and water flow. For example, it was necessary to reduce the weight of each solar panel as much as possible to make the system easier to float; on the other hand, there must be enough pulling force , to prevent the system from being blown up by strong winds in bad weather and deviating from the original design position.

When Typhoon Siamba hit Hong Kong in early July, she said that the department had closely monitored the system and finally confirmed that the system was performing well, so she was more confident to consider installing floating solar power systems in other flood storage tanks.

When designing the anchoring system for the floating solar power generation system, the engineering team put a lot of thought into preventing the system from being damaged due to impact, or the cable breaking due to large displacement.
