Damascus-SANA
A few steps away from the Umayyad Mosque on one side and the Olive Church on the other side, specifically in the Azem Palace, the singers of the Gardenia women's choir, led by Maestro Ghada Harb, crowned the night of Damascus with a spiritual ring of the most beautiful Sufi hymns that carry peace in their melody and love in their words.
The evening, which was held by the Directorate of Theaters and Music in the Ministry of Culture, was characterized by the harmony of the female voice, which was accompanied by an expressive performance by the girls of the Gardenia Coral, in line with the emotional state of the Sufi poems, represented by raising hands and invoking the word of majesty according to the design of Hor Malas, and the performance of the dancer Sally Daoud, in contrast to the white color of their dresses decorated with a scarf, of serenity and calmness. Designed and implemented by Sama Handicraft Company.
Maestro Harb chose during the evening Syrian women to be her shining stars, who broke the usual stereotype of group performance, so they portrayed a mystical ritual between poetry, singing, playing and dancing in an elegant panel of Sufi poems by poets not known much about them in different periods of time. Maestro Adnan Fathallah, Kanan Adnawi and Lina Shammian, and the largest share of Hessa Safana Baqla.
Despite the absence of the players from the stage, the music previously recorded by the oud player Kinan Adnawi, the flute player Ibrahim Kadur, the bouzouk player Kinan Abu Akl, the qanun player Dima Mawazini, the pianist Rama Nasri, the cellist Muhammad Namek and the percussionist Mazen Hamza added a special elegance that accompanied the harmony. Between the soprano vocals and the alto rawness that distinguishes female voices.
The poem “The Hearts of the Knowers Have Eyes” by the poet Maymouna Al-Sawda topped the program, which included nine poems, followed by “Habibi, you are from my heart near” by the poet Aisha Al-Baounia. She drew attention to her by performing a single link from the poem “Rehana’s Dress” by the poet Rihana the Majnun.
It is noteworthy that the Gardenia choir was founded by the opera singer of the soprano class Ghada Harb and the harpist Safana Bakla in 2016. It includes a group of professional singers in the field of choral singing and playing various musical instruments, most of whom hold university degrees.
