Bad Wiessee – The Wiesseer building committee recently discussed planned systems for outdoor advertising at Bussi Baby.

A wellness area and a new facade: The conversion work on the Hotel Bussi Baby in Bad Wiessee is largely complete.

The formerly dark wooden facade of the former "Wiesseer Hof" was optically adapted to the new staff house and replaced with light larch wood.

Before the start of the summer break, the municipality's building committee dealt with another application from hotelier Korbinian Kohler.

This time it was about planned systems for outdoor advertising at Bussi Baby.

For this purpose, an exemption from the approval process had been applied for.

Specifically, new lettering and neon signs are to be installed in several places on the hotel's facade.

On the south side, on the balcony on the first floor, an illuminated sign “Bussi Baby” is planned.

The balcony roof over the fourth floor should have neon writing “Spa

Royal" received in individual letters.

Above the hotel entrance on the north side, the hotel name should be supplemented by a subline “Hotel/Spa/Bar”.

Finally, on the east side facing Sanktjohanserstrasse, the side facade is to be decorated with the hotel name in reversed writing, and an application has been made for illuminated writing “Boom Boom” on the ground floor.

The awnings on the ground floor are also to be reprinted with the same "Boom Boom" or the announcement "Eat/Bar/Cinema".

It had already been communicated in advance through the administrative channels that an exemption from approval would be rejected, said head of the building department Anton Bammer.

The administration considers a building permit procedure to be necessary.

The matter could be clarified quickly, the client had signaled his approval.

From today's perspective, older statutes appear in need of revision

Bammer explained that the qualified development plan for the former Wiesseer Hof does not contain any special regulations for advertising systems.

But according to the statutes for advertising systems of the municipality of Bad Wiessee, advertising is not permitted on upper floors, roofs and balconies.

At this point, however, the building administration gave in.

From today's perspective, this older statute appears in need of revision, as the present case shows.

Since it is an existing hotel complex and advertising systems were already installed in the existing building, it is simply no longer up to date to apply such strict standards.

Accordingly, Bammer gave a positive verdict: the planned lettering and illuminated signs continued the conception of the hotel in a suitable and consistent way and optically rounded off its appearance.

Therefore, his suggestion was to approve the application – including exemptions.

Redesign of the house "interesting and successful"

In the subsequent debate, there was unanimity that the redesign of the house was "interesting and successful".

On the other hand, the committee could not be so unreservedly friendly with all the requested advertising measures.

"This jumble of different fonts with and without light is destroying the entire architecture," said Johannes von Miller from the Greens.

In particular, the fallen "Bussi Baby" on the side of the street doesn't work at all, he found.

Such a hotel certainly needs alternative advertising, Peter Kathan (CSU) admitted, although the whole thing seemed to him to be “somehow too much Las Vegas”.

Another conversation with the hotelier Kohler seemed appropriate to Kurt Sareiter.

It should be communicated that the advertising measures seemed a bit exaggerated to the building committee,

especially the oversized fallen vertical lettering.

Fraction colleague Florian Sareiter suggested applying this with paint instead of neon letters as an alternative.

Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) then brought the solution to the table: the two major measures should be taken, the vertical one

Facade advertising and the "Spa Royal" on the fourth floor, refuse, but approve the other smaller writings.

Johann Zehetmeier (FWG) also spoke out in favor of such a reduction.

With these two caveats, the motion then received a unanimous yes.
