Taxi in the Paris region for nine years, Franck Santos deplores being confronted with traffic jams “at all hours”.

He doesn't hesitate for a second when it comes to saying what time of day he prefers to work.

Franck Santos, a taxi driver for nine years in the Paris region, likes to be on the road "around 4 or 5 in the morning, because it's the only time without a traffic jam".

After a few years working in Paris, Franck Santos chose to set up his independent taxi company in Chennevières and work mainly in the Val-de-Marne.

"Circulating in Paris had become unbearable", but now, even in the suburbs, daily taxi life has "become difficult".

“Many colleagues go to the provinces”

So much so that at 36, and while he appreciates the freedom that his job offers to be available for his 2-year-old daughter, Franck Santos is not sure he will exercise it for long.

“Many colleagues leave to work in the provinces.

Obviously, as a taxi, traffic jams are integrated into the job, but the difference today is that they happen at any time, whereas before we knew when we were going to be able to respect the durations of races.

About 80% of Franck Santos' assignments consist of driving patients to their appointments or medical care.

“Unfortunately they sometimes arrive late, and when I take someone to the airport or to the train station, there is at least an hour's margin!

In favor of dedicated lanes

Since he has been driving, Franck Santos believes that the situation on the roads is not improving.

“Except perhaps at the level of the Nogent bridge.

The major works limited the traffic jams, but no miracles happened... As for traffic on the hard shoulder on the A4, it's closed every other day so it doesn't change much thing !

Above all, he would like to see more dedicated lanes, such as those on the A6a or the A1.

"Only dedicated to buses, taxis and carpooling, they would be really efficient", assures Franck Santos.

And the daily driver to dream of new lane creations, as he saw this summer on vacation in Cairo, Egypt.

"Over there, things are rolling, in the new neighborhoods they have created lanes that pass above the others, there are five lanes in each direction, it works, even if I am well aware that not everything is applicable on Paris… "
