The choice of a diagonal fishbone floor was deliberate and created the illusion of a straight and balanced space.

The project:

Renovation of a penthouse in Hod Hasharon

for:

an elderly couple

Area:

200 square meters built + 180 square meters balcony

Budget:

about NIS 2 million

Architecture and design:

Adi Aronov

After decades of living in a duplex apartment in Kfar Saba, the couple decided it was time to It has a face lift so that it fits their needs, desires and their current lifestyle.

They turned to the architect Adi Aronov, who quickly realized that the sum of the disadvantages outweighed the advantages: "I was correct and professional and simply told them that even after a comprehensive renovation, this apartment would not really meet all the needs first and foremost because it had quite a few constructive constraints that cannot be changed," Aronov recalls.

"I strongly advised them to sell the apartment, knowing that it would be stolen, and to look for a new apartment that would be a better base for their needs. It took time, but in the end they found a penthouse apartment in Hod Hasharon, which is spread across the top floor of a new residential tower, with a 360-degree perimeter balcony Ma'alot the viewer of a maddening urban landscape and the open fields of the settlements of the area."

The new apartment is not completely free of problems either, but Aronov managed to turn the challenges into notable advantages: "The original contractor's design blocked the natural flow in some areas, for example the original kitchen which blocked the optimal exit to the balcony. In addition, the elements that the contractor installed in the apartment were of a very low standard They helped produce the luxurious and luxurious concept we wanted to create. Originally, the apartment was designed to have 5 bedrooms and one of the bedroom suites, which included an attached bathroom, we canceled in favor of expanding the couple's master bedroom and the public space. Thus, by breaking several walls we were able to create an optimal flow And a much better definition of the various functions."

Another challenge the architect faced was the LAYOUT, which is full of diagonals: "This apartment is full of diagonals that were very noticeable, especially in the contractor's envelope. I decided to harness them as a tool to help me define the functions and spaces and to enhance visual aspects, in the combination of the materials we chose. For example, a fishbone pattern parquet floor Diagonally, which was placed on top of the contractor's flooring, and created in minutes the illusion of a straight and balanced space.

The luxury and attention to detail is evident in every area, right from the dramatic entrance hall, which Aronov covered with U-shaped black metal panels in different rhythms: "The contractor's original design led to the bedroom wing being located right in front of the front door, which created a lot of confusion and intuitively people mistakenly thought it was The entrance to the public space. The cladding we chose blurs and humbles the transition and creates a rhythm along the corridor, which leads those who come into the public space."

The library in the hallway, which is used to display beautiful utensils and for storage, continues and penetrates the tall facade in the kitchen.

Although it was designed by a master carpenter and the kitchen was designed as a separate unit by a kitchen company, they are called together as one continuous harmonious unit.

Aronov divided the apartment into 3 wings: the private wing where the couple's spacious master bedroom, an office for him, an office for her and a guest room are located, and a public space that is divided into two conceptual complexes: one - formal and perfect for entertaining, and the other - an intimate area that fits precisely into the daily routine of the couple.

"The diagonals allowed me to create an optimal division and define an intimate living room for them, where a deep and luxurious sofa awaits them with plenty of leg room. Another element that defines and refines the area is a power wall made of metal panels in which we combined visible and hidden lighting fixtures."

The well-equipped kitchen is the realm of the owner of the apartment, who is known to be generous: "We chose not to humble the kitchen, but exactly the opposite," explains the architect.

"We took his conceptual line and pulled it outwards, so that the impressive island stands out and can be seen from many angles, including from the balcony, inviting those who come in. This way the couple can enjoy the different spaces and the spectacular view during a meal for two or while sipping a morning coffee. We chose to cover the fronts of the kitchen In durable nano formica in two shades - one front black and the other light and airy, a dark surrounding that connects it and the black front. We covered the island with a dekton surface in a black shade with golden fibers that correspond with the color of the parquet. We also used the same decton surface to cover the niche in the light front that exudes a luxurious dimension An impressive and delicate light fixture, designed by CUSTOM MADE and combining several types of lighting, floats lightly over the island."

Next, a formal dining area that combines massive, sculptural iron legs with a glass top.

Around her were placed wooden chairs in a rounded silhouette.

Throughout the house were hung fine works of art that the couple had collected over the years.

In the formal living room, a powerful piece of carpentry hides plenty of storage compartments.

The furniture is covered with oak slats that obscure the mass.

A cube element that comes out of the plane of the furniture in an asymmetrical composition makes it possible to store large items inside.

And from the living room, to the spectacular and spacious balcony that is divided into wings and allows the couple to spend time and host their family and friends in a wide variety of scenarios.

They and the guests enjoy a festive dining area that stands under a pergola from which you can enjoy a panoramic view facing the expanses.

The outdoor living room is a direct continuation of the formal living room and there is also an equipped outdoor kitchen and a seating bar: "The balcony is invested and for good reason. We wanted to create a feeling of a courtyard for everything located on the 18th floor," explains Aronov.

"The central wall is covered with a cocktail of basalt stones in varying shades, and a variety of trees and plants have been planted throughout the garden. The koi fish pond is an attraction in itself. In the center is a fountain whose splashing water can be heard inside."

You can also hear the lapping of the water inside.

The couple's master bedroom, which is close to 30 square meters, faces the showcase and overlooks a wonderful view and is designed with a fresh and clean line. Aronov designed for them a carpentry piece that also serves as a bench, where they store objects and books. hidden leading to the bathroom.
