»The number of valid votes per candidate: Rishi Sunak 60,399, Liz Truss 81,326.

Therefore I announce that Liz Truss has been elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party.«

Great Britain gets a new Prime Minister.

Members of the Conservative Party voted in favor of the current Secretary of State, Liz Truss.

Liz Truss, Prime Minister-Elect Great Britain

"Thank you for trusting me to lead our great Conservative party - the greatest party in the world."

Truss was once considered a liberal and EU supporter.

But then, like most of her party, she swung to a strictly conservative course.

Now Truss presents itself as a kind of “Thatcher 2.0”.

Liz Truss, Prime Minister-Elect Great Britain

“During this campaign I ran as a Conservative.

And I will govern as a Conservative.”

Truss comes into office at a difficult time: Great Britain is in a deep domestic political crisis.

The cost of living has risen rapidly in recent months.

The past two months have left a power vacuum in their search for a successor to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Virtually no major policy decision has been made since early July, despite inflation exceeding 10% and its disastrous consequences for millions of Britons.

Johnson took office in the summer of 2019 after his predecessor Theresa May failed on Brexit.

The ex-mayor of London is leaving his mark: as a Brexit bringer - but also because of numerous scandals and missteps - such as the "Partygate" affair, when parties were illegally celebrated in the British seat of government during the strict lockdown.

Nevertheless, Johnson does not rule out a return to politics - he passed the British Parliament accordingly in July.

»Mr.

Speaker, I want to thank everyone here.

And: Hasta la vista, baby.

Thanks."

On Tuesday, Boris Johnson is to be officially dismissed by the British Queen and his successor Liz Truss will be named the new Prime Minister.
