The new series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been running on Amazon Prime Video since September 2nd.

After the two blockbuster trilogies "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit", the journey in Middle-earth continues with this series.

The Tales of Frodo and Bilbo were based on the books by JRR Tolkien.

But what about the series?

The Rings of Power is a little different this time.

We tell you which book the new Amazon series is based on.

Curious?

You can even stream The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for free with Amazon Prime.

What is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power about?

The new Amazon series, which is probably the most expensive series of all time at a cost of over one billion US dollars, is set in the second age of Middle-earth.

The events thus take place thousands of years before the events based on JRR Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings.

In the trilogy, the protagonists also repeatedly look back to the second age, in which the mighty ring was forged and Sauron suffered a sensitive defeat at the Battle of Mount Doom.

The ring came into the possession of Isildur and the third age in Middle-earth began.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" forms the prequel to the exploits of Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas and the other companions.

Some protagonists will certainly look familiar to LotR fans.

So the two elves Galadriel and Elrond are there as main characters, who were already seen in "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit".

What book is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power based on?

While The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were based on the novels by JRR Tolkien, The Rings of Power is different.

Because there is no novel about this that forms the basis for the second age in Middle-earth.

Many events, such as the rise and fall of Númenor, are described in The Silmarillion.

There are many stories about Middle-earth in this book.

But "The Silmarillion" is not a novel in the true sense, rather it is a chronicle of the fictional world of dwarves, elves and hobbits.

Some chapters are dedicated to the first age, but the second age, in which "The Rings of Power" is mainly set, also occurs.

Anyone who wants to find out more about the new Amazon series is well equipped with the almost 600-page paperback.
