State President Yitzhak Herzog called this morning (Tuesday) in a speech in the German House of Representatives to take practical measures against Iran, saying that the Jewish people remember and will continue to remember the horror of the Nazi regime on German soil.
The event was attended by the President of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmeier, Chancellor Olaf Schulz, and members of the Bundestag.
Herzog spoke in Hebrew and opened his speech with the Yazkor prayer in memory of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
He went on to say, "The Jewish nation is a nation that remembers. It is an essential and inseparable part of our identity. And so, when I step on German soil, I cannot help but remember, and take out of my backpack the photo album of my people, in which countless photos from this piece of land are interwoven. Pictures of peaks , pictures of abysses".
"It's no secret, this country - Germany, has been home to the greatest horrors that have befallen the Jewish people and humanity as a whole throughout the ages. Beginning with pogroms, pharaohs, and cruel massacres, the destruction of entire Jewish communities, which has occurred time and time again in the last thousand years; and ending in the abyss The darkest thing in the history of the human family - the Holocaust. There was nothing in the annals like the campaign that the Nazis and their assistants carried out to destroy the Jewish people. There was never a country that was responsible, as Nazi Germany is responsible - for the loss of a human image, for the erasure of compassion, for the desire to erase from the face of the earth, with such terrible cruelty, A whole nation. The Jewish people do not forget. And not only because of our duty to past generations, but because of our duty to future generations.

The President emphasized Israel's complicity in the international effort to curb Iran.
"Even in our generation, even at this very time, dark forces of hatred, led by Iran, threaten not only Israel, and not only stability in the Middle East, but the entire world order. Here, from this important stage in Berlin, I call on the family of nations to act decisively and firmly ", said.
"Threats and actions to destroy Israel are unthinkable. The possession of weapons of mass destruction by a UN member state that calls every day for the destruction of another UN member state is simply unthinkable. The guideline should be clear: Those who deny the Holocaust, those who practice hatred and aggression, those who threaten the right of the State of Israel to exist - are not entitled to sign agreements that only strengthen it, are not entitled to benefits or funds, are not entitled to concessions under any circumstances," the President continued.
"The international community must stand on the right side of history - set clear conditions, impose harsh and necessary sanctions, create an impassable buffer between Iran and nuclear capability, take action, and not give up. The State of Israel will defend itself and fight in every way threats against it and its citizens. I call Never stand back."
