Liz Truss is taking on a difficult legacy: she is the fourth British head of government in six years.

She had been a minister in Boris Johnson's cabinet since 2019 - and was therefore largely responsible for the chaos during his reign.

In spite of this, or perhaps precisely because of this, she praised her predecessor over the green clover after her appointment.

Liz Truss, Prime Minister

»

Boris, you managed Brexit, you defeated Jeremy Corbyn, you managed the Corona vaccination campaign, you defied Vladimir Putin.

You are admired from Kiev to Carlisle, my friend Boris Johnson

."

The tasks ahead of Britain's new Prime Minister are daunting.

And Truss has to tackle it without much support: neither her party nor the population is completely convinced of her.

Man

»

The future looks pretty bleak at the moment.

I don't think she's the person who really cares or does anything positive.

She really does seem a bit wishy-washy.”

Woman

"It is sad.

They have become a party made up of a very small group that no longer has any connection with its citizens.

I see a woman now who doesn't really care and is selfish and ambitious."

Man

"

It will be a disaster.

12 years of Tories and what have they done to this country?

I mean, we're in a crisis now in terms of the cost of living.

And they could have done something in the last 12 years.

They could have dealt with the energy crisis or the housing crisis for the last 12 years, but they have no new ideas.

Even if they replace the prime minister, they are the same people.

«

In terms of foreign policy, Truss has changed in recent years from an EU supporter to a Brexit hardliner - a fact that many Britons resent.

Man

"

I don't think she's an intelligent person.

She can't make decisions.

She keeps changing her mind.

She doesn't think.

She can't answer questions.

I see no hope."

Woman

“I'm desperate because I think party politics is dead.

And I think we really need a management team to take care of the UK, take care of the country and do what is best for all and not what is best for a select few.”

Man

'I immediately thought she was the female Boris.

I'm not a fan of Boris.

She's lost her mind many times, very often.

But I have to give her a chance.

The Conservative Party voted for her, so let's see how it goes."

At least one person is not impressed by the mood of crisis: in recent years, the cat Larry has become a symbol of stability at Number 10 Downing Street.

While the careers of various prime ministers in Great Britain rarely ended in glory, he has held the fort since 2011.

And that will probably remain the case with the new head of government.
