Liz Truss is taking on a difficult legacy: she is the fourth British head of government in six years.
She had been a minister in Boris Johnson's cabinet since 2019 - and was therefore largely responsible for the chaos during his reign.
In spite of this, or perhaps precisely because of this, she praised her predecessor over the green clover after her appointment.

The tasks ahead of Britain's new Prime Minister are daunting.
And Truss has to tackle it without much support: neither her party nor the population is completely convinced of her.

In terms of foreign policy, Truss has changed in recent years from an EU supporter to a Brexit hardliner - a fact that many Britons resent.

At least one person is not impressed by the mood of crisis: in recent years, the cat Larry has become a symbol of stability at Number 10 Downing Street.
While the careers of various prime ministers in Great Britain rarely ended in glory, he has held the fort since 2011.
And that will probably remain the case with the new head of government.
