A massive plume of moisture stretching from the eastern Pacific to the US East Coast has unleashed excessive rainfall in the Northeast, while some places are already experiencing flooding.

More than 50 million people are under flood warning until the end of this Tuesday in several major cities such as Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Providence, Rhode Island.

"Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," specifically in central Middlesex and Haven counties, the National Weather Service reported.

The heavy rains belong to the same storm system that flooded parts of Georgia on Sunday, as well as extreme rains in the Appalachians and the Northeast on Monday.
This storm system will create a low pressure area off the mid-Atlantic coast through Tuesday, bringing heavier showers in the afternoon.
"This will make the area from northern Delaware to southeastern New York to southern New England the region with the most precipitation," the forecast center said.
"Heavy rainfall within relatively slow-moving thunderstorms may result in scattered instances of flash flooding from southern New England to the Delmarva Peninsula, including major cities on I-95 from Boston to Philadelphia," officials added. .
The region already registers between 2.5 and 7.6 centimeters of rain.
With additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches expected, with higher amounts in some places, flooding is a concern, the National Weather Service added.
